The Droplet Inteface Bilayer (DIB)-Pipette method allowed us to monitor the translocation of fluorescent peptides through an artificial DIB membrane in the presence of a controlled membrane potential and CaM protein ligands in the target aqueous compartment. This technique reveals how Bordetella pertussis’s toxin hijacks host cells: one peptide crosses membranes on its own, while another needs an electric nudge.
